Island stone called the Maiden Stone

In the vicinity of Daugai, in the forest of the village of Sala, the stone of Merga stands. It is said that during the reign of Count Brastauskas, the serfs built the Devil’s Bridge, transporting stones for construction in boats. One girl did not go to work without being asked, and her father was flogged for that. While dying, the father cursed his daughter: “That you would rather turn to stone.” This is how this stone came about.
The stone is included in the Register of Immovable cultural values .
